The Professionals
Mr. Collins (age 40) is one of the
most respected producer/writer/directors of historical
documentaries and dramas for PBS, with eight one-hour
programs to his credit, including: "Sins of Our Mothers"
(Amanda Plummer); "Insanity on Trial" (Ron Vawter, Kyle
McLachlan); "Telegrams from the Dead" (Ellen Burstyn) -- for
which he was recently nominated for a Writer's Guild Award;
and "Edison's Miracle of Light" (Peter Coyote).
In its short history, Elevator Pictures (Mr. Collins'
Production Company) has also produced documentaries,
commercials, and industrials for such varied clients as TBS,
Fox Television, IBM, the Peace Action Committee, Norman
Lear's Business Enterprise Trust, Escada, The National Trust
for Historic Preservation, and others.
In 1995, Mr. Collins produced "Mercy," a feature film
directed by Richard Shepard starring John Rubinstein, Amber
Kain, and Sam Rockwell. "Mercy" premiered at the 1995
Hamptons Film Festival
where it was praised by New York Newsday as "one of the
highlights!" of the festival. The Hollywood Reporter
described "Mercy" as "a tense, taut thriller that benefits
from a texture and complexity rarely found in modern
movies."
Collins recently completed his own first dramatic feature
film as writer/director and co-producer, "Pants on Fire",
with Harry O'Reilly, Christy Baron, Eilleen Brennan, and
Karen Young. The film was selected for a screening at New
York's Lincoln Center in December or 1997, and will make its
festival debut at the prestigious Los Angeles Independent
Film Festival in April.
Mr. Collins received a B.A. in film studies from Wesleyan
University in 1980, and began his professional life as an
editor of dramatic films that same year.
